Indie Montréal – Winter, Spring and Summer Internship

Indie Montreal is looking for Winter, Spring and Summer interns! Applicants must be highly motivated and enthusiastic, with an interest in working in or discovering the live music industry. Interns will be immersed in various aspects of the show and promotions industry for an established Quebec music promoter. Because Indie Montreal is a small business, interns will complete valued tasks on the company’s front lines. The intern will work on daily duties, medium-term and long-term projects, supervised by the Director of Indie Montreal. Interns will also be required on-site for events.

Dates: February 1, 2013 – August 31, 2013 (some flexibility in start and end dates)
Hours: 30 hours per week
Salary: Unpaid Internship
Location: Work to be done remotely, with ongoing guidance and feedback. To meet with supervisor during weekly or biweekly staff meetings
Languages: English & French, fluent spoken and written

Assets – Skills, Training & Interests:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Basic Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign an asset
  • Knowledge of Google Docs and Google Calendar
  • Excellent Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media Websites
  • Very Organized with keen attention to detail
  • Responsible with attention to instruction
  • Web research experience an asset
  • Background in the music industry, event management or marketing an asset
  • Familiarity / experience with Quebec media (print, radio, TV, web), both Anglophone and Francophone, an asset.
  • A general interest in music, arts & culture


  • Research projects related to media, artists, talent buying, etc.
  • Compiling and databasing lists of relevant contacts related to specific areas of Indie Montreal’s activities
  • Assisting with media, marketing and promotional rollout
  • Assisting with production and box office management
  • Assisting with outreach to like-minded organizations with the purpose of creating partnerships
  • Assisting with outreach to schools and campus organizations with the purpose of creating partnerships
  • Assisting in programming Indie Montreal’s events
  • Assisting in street marketing and grass roots outreach


  • Direct experience with local and regional music industry leaders
  • Direct experience working with national and international musical touring acts
  • Experience dealing with international music industry professionals, including Agents, Managers, Tour Managers, Record Labels, Publicists, etc.
  • Possible occasional regional travel with other Indie Montreal staff
  • Free entrance to Indie Montreal events

This is an unpaid position

Academic Credit:
Indie Montreal will work with any educational institution to ensure that the intern receives any due academic credit for their work and experience.
