Internship – Production Assistant


Indie Montreal is looking for an intern production assistant! Applicants must be highly motivated and enthusiastic, with an interest in working in or discovering the live music industry. Interns will be immersed in various aspects of the show and promotions industry for an established Canadian concert promoter. Because Indie Montreal is a small business, the coordinator will complete valued tasks on the company’s front lines. The intern will work on daily duties and medium-term projects, supervised by the Director of Indie Montreal. The intern will also be required on-site for events.

Dates: March 3, 2014 – September 3, 2014 (some flexibility in start and end dates)

Hours: 15-20 hours per week

Salary: Unpaid Internship

Location: Work to be done at Indie Montreal office and in the field, with ongoing guidance and feedback. To meetwith supervisor during weekly staff meetings

Languages: English & French, fluent spoken and written

Assets – Skills, Training & Interests:

  • Very organized, meticulous and conscientious
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Google Docs and Google Calendar
  • Knowledge of and comfort with Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media Websites
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Regularly available and consistently responsive by email and by phone
  • Experience in concert production an asset
  • Music-related professional and academic experience an asset
  • A general interest in music, arts & culture


  • To collect, manage and organize promotional materials for shared use among Indie Montreal team
  • To communicate with artists’ and their management regarding upcoming show logistics and technical specs
  • To communicate with venues regarding technical specs, logistics and promotional details
  • To help manage the entire communication chain between Indie Montreal, its artists and venues
  • To ensure that the Indie Montreal team has required promotional and logistical materials to complete their tasks
  • To disseminate production schedules to involved parties
  • Involvement on-site at events as production assistant
  • To manage artist’s needs and questions on-site during events


  • Valuable organizational and relationship management experience
  • Valuable communications experience with members of the music industry
  • Valuable logistical experience in concert production and promotion
  • Direct experience with local and regional music industry leaders
  • Direct experience working with national and international musical touring acts
  • Experience dealing with international music industry professionals, including Agents, Managers, Tour Managers, Record Labels, Publicists, etc.
  • Possible occasional regional travel with other Indie Montreal staff
  • Free entrance to Indie Montreal events

This is an unpaid position

Academic Credit:
Indie Montreal will work with any educational institution to ensure that the intern receives any due academic credit for their work and experience.
